Gascosage Electric Coop. sponsors 2010 D.C. Youth Tour participants
Washington, D.C. – 85 high school juniors participated in Missouri’s forty-seventh annual Missouri Electric Youth Tour to Washington, D.C. June 11-17. Local delegates were (from left): Kelli Nelson, Iberia; Ryan Reagan, Newburg; Alex Ellis, Crocker and Karen Trout, Dixon. They were sponsored by Gascosage Electric Cooperative, Dixon.

Dixon summer school was a success this year
This year’s summer school for the Dixon R-I School District ended on June 24th. Average Daily Attendance (ADA) for the period was 93.33%. Enrolled at DES at the end of the session was 104, DMS, 28, and DHS, 37, for a total of 169.
According to Mike Smith, DMS Principal and Summer School Coordinator, it was a very successful summer session. It was very helpful to have the Middle and High School students both in the Middle School building instead of having students spread out among all three buildings.

Two injured in Dixon’s Rodeo over weekend
Numerous spectators attended the American Family Rodeo Association Rodeo at Dixon Saddle Club Friday and Saturday night, June 25th and 26th.
Events included pole bending, peewee bulls, bull riding, goat tying, mutton busting, bronc riding, ribbon roping, break away roping, calf and team roping, barrel racing, chute dogging and junior bulls.

Outdoor Theater comes to Dixon
There is a new way to spend your Saturday evenings this summer. The Reeders have started an Outdoor Theater on the grounds of the Bluegrass Park. The theater opened on June 5th and has been open each Saturday evening since.
When asked how this theater came about, I was told that the idea came from a Dixon resident who had lived in Tennessee for awhile in a town that had such a theater and that it was a hit. The Reeders discussed it and decided that they would like to try this idea.

Long earns medalits honors at Missouri Amateur, loses in quarterfinals of match play
Former Dixon High School state champion golfer Jace Long earned medalist honors for the second consecutive year, after 36 holes of stroke play qualifying at the 2010 Missouri Amateur Championship at Twin Oaks Country Club in Springfield. Long shot an 8-under-par 68-66--134 to earn the #1 seed entering match play last Thursday as the field of 160 had been whittled down to 64.

Chris Pilz All American Basketball Camp at Rolla
Coach Chris Pilz will be bring his All American Basketball Camp program to Rolla on July 12th and July 13th at the Rolla Junior High. The clinics are open to boys and girls in 4th through 12th grades.
Just Shoot it Better will be held on Monday, July 12th and Skills to Score will be held on Tuesday, July 13th.

Dixon American Legion baseball team wins West Plains Wood Bat Tourney championship
The Dixon Post 298 Bulldogs Baseball Team just finished taking the Championship in last weekend’s West Plains Wood Bat Tournament. Over the weekend the Bullodgs got past Rolla 11-4 and knocked off host West Plains in a thrilling 7th inning, 6-5 win in the title game. This is the first tournament title this summer to go along with two third place finishes in the Springfield Catholic/Logan-Rogersville Tournament and the Conway Tournament.
