Examples of biometric readers include facial image scanners, fingerprint scanners, iris scanners, and voice recognition devices. Because such characteristics aren’t changeable, biometric readers serve as a highly reliable form of smart access control for businesses.
Intrusion detection software
Another different type of smart access control technology is intrusion detection software. Such software helps secure a network by continuously monitoring its traffic for suspicious activity and known threats. In the case that unauthorized personnel tries to infiltrate the system, the software will immediately flag them. Once an intrusion violation is detected, an alert pertaining to the suspicious activity will typically be reported to an administrator or central security system.

Smart card readers are a type of physical electronic authorization device. They are used to scan smart cards that connect to them either with direct physical contact or with a remote contactless radio frequency interface. Smart cards contain an integrated circuit such as a secure microcontroller or memory chip that is embedded inside them. Upon connecting to the smart card reader, smart cards can provide personal identification or authentication to access an area or resource.
