The Dos and Don’ts of First Dates

The Dos and Don’ts of First Dates

First dates are so exciting. There’s nothing more thrilling than the possibility of a new romance. However, first dates can be stressful, as well. You’re constantly worried about what the person’s going to think of you. Fear not, anxious-daters—here’s a list of dos and don’ts for first dates. If you follow these rules, you’ll both have a blast.

Do Clean Your Car Beforehand

You must clean your car before you head out to a first date. There’s nothing more unappealing than getting into a messy vehicle. If you want to make a great impression, make sure to clean your car’s interior like a pro. Scrub every hard surface to remove any spots. Also, vacuum all the floors and wash your windows. The cleaner your ride is, the more impressed your date will be. If your automobile is messy and filled with your junk, your date with think you’re unorganized. Let them know you’re a structured person and make sure your car is spotless before the big night.

Don’t Show Up Late

Punctuality is important when it comes to a first date. If you say you’re going to pick up the person at six, you should be there promptly at six. If you’re not there, it could make your date extremely anxious. There’s nothing worse than waiting for someone to pick you up. So many thoughts race through your mind: are they coming? Did they forget? Avoid this issue altogether and arrive on time. Showing up late doesn’t send the best message, either. Show your date that you aren’t wasting their time and make sure you arrive for your first date when you say you will.

Do Be Yourself

Everyone knows first dates are nerve-wracking. Since people feel so stressed out, they tend to act differently on first dates. Please, don’t let your anxiety get to you. Be yourself on a first date. The person will notice if you’re pretending to be someone you’re not. Take a deep breath and enjoy yourself. You’ll have a much better time if you don’t worry about hiding aspects of your personality. Your date will find this comforting, as well. There’s nothing worse than being on a date with someone who’s trying too hard. Things will go much smoother if you just be yourself and see if the person likes you, for you.

Don’t Stare at Your Phone

Your date is definitely more interesting than your phone. Please, don’t stare at your cell phone the entire time you’re on a first date. Put your phone away so you can fully engage with the person you’re with. You can look at Instagram at any time of the day. A first date isn’t the right time to check game scores, either. If you’re staring at your phone the entire date, the person will feel incredibly insulted and will want to go home. Don’t let distractions get in the way of having a great time.
